We have a lot of water quality improvement goals and there are only so many conservation professionals out there to make it happen. We all know we need more manpower, and volunteers are the key to our combined success.
Volunteer engagement comes in many forms, from lifelong dedication to one-time only participants, and they are all a valuable part of the equation. This session will begin with an introduction to the Penn State Extension – Master Watershed Stewards program and how these highly engaged volunteers are helping outreach to landowners, plan and implement BMP projects, and more. Then we will transition into tips and strategies for engaging groups and individuals with short-term and one-shot volunteer efforts from the experiences of the Penn State Greening the Lower Susquehanna program, which has engaged over 4,000 volunteers in buffer plantings and related activities since 2013.
