NVSWCD; Soils & Water Table Talk

June 11 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Join Soil Scientist Dan Schwartz of Northern Virginia SWCD for a wide-ranging talk on how the appearance and color of the soil—its “morphology”—can be used to determine the depth to the water table. When recommending or designing VCAP practices that rely on infiltration, it is important to know the depth to the water table so that you can maintain required offsets. Water tables fluctuate throughout the year, but soil morphology can provide a consistent estimate of the depth of the seasonal high water table (SHWT) regardless of the season.
