The Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional Program is working with the Rappahannock River Roundtable to host the Level I field training in Fredericksburg, Virginia. This course requires registration and participation in the online training sessions prior to the field training.
The mission of the Chesapeake Bay Landscape Professional (CBLP) Certification program is to develop a voluntary, regional (that is, watershed-wide), advanced credential system and network of sustainable landscaping professionals.
We envision a Chesapeake Bay watershed in which consistently-trained landscape professionals design, install, and maintain small-scale stormwater best practices including conservation landscapes that meet state and local goals to reduce stormwater runoff, sediment, and nutrients, while benefiting residents and ecosystems.
Level 1 is a baseline credential in design, installation, and maintenance of sustainable landscapes, with emphasis on how to properly maintain stormwater best management practices. Scholarships and discounts are available for Roundtable partners! Contact Roundtable coordinator Bryan Hofmann (bryan.hofmann@riverfriends.org) for more information.
Level 1 consists of a three-day class, access to our online webinar series, and a written exam. Due to Covid-19 the course has been converted to two highly active, shorter sessions via zoom, and one in person, full-day, practicum. The class incorporates interactive classroom instruction on conservation landscaping topics (soils, native plants, habitat, natural communities, and invasive plant management) and stormwater best management practices (BMPs), with a field-based practicum. Level 1 also teaches visual inspection and verification of BMPs.
